I've booked to go in Jan and am looking forward to it. I just checked out the the official hotel website and I see that it states "Adults Only from May 1st". This is great news as far as I'm concerned - but I've seen the UK tour operator First Choice still pricing for children all thro and I just got a confirmation from the UK tour op a few mins ago that the hotel is in fact definitely going to be completely Adult Only from May.
I book several trips each year and, where possible, I do try to aim for "no children" hotels. This one has come as an unexpected surprise welcome bonus for me. It does seem that an increasing number of hotels around the world are now adopting an adult only policy - I guess it must significantly improve profitability where they don't have to provide child facilities - and special child discounts.
Plus there are an increasing number of ancient folk like me travelling who don't particularly like vast numbers of children around and are actually prepared to pay a little more to get that.
Wow, interesting! Mind you, when we were there last year for 2wks, there were not many families with kids. So, I can see their perspective! I like adult only too but admit I'm concerned so many are rushing to this concept. Where will folks with kids go? I do feel for them. My daughter who I travel with was once a child. She loved our Caribbean travels when younger. I guess El Portillo will be full of kids now. Mind you, the beach there is ideal for little ones.
Cayacoa didn't have a "kids pool" so most of them were at the quiet pool and the beach. This has come as a added bonus for us also as we are travelling dec and no offence to anyone with children but i would prefer to be in a adults only hotel. What we have seen in the UK is an increasing number of family holiday environments abroad. Thomson and First Choice actually have a range of locations aimed at families with a huge number of facilities aimed at this market. We have also seen an increase in their Sensitori range which is largely exclusively brit and AO - obviously they see a need to provide segregated holiday environments for their customer base who have an actual preference either way.
